Software Supported:
If your program is not listed above, please call us for assistance. Most programs will allow the user to "save as" or "export" in a format that will allow us to open and edit your files.

1. All Jobs need a Pre-Flight EZ Form. All pertinent information must be filled out, (company name, contact name, address, our job #, file names, formats, trim size and special instructions.

2. FONTS should be provided, both screen and printer fonts, regardless if they have been supplied in the past. The font "Times" from two years ago is not exactly the same font bought today, because the font companies "improve and modify" their products every year. Avoid truetype and multiple master fonts as these can give unpredictable results that slow production.

3. IMAGES need to be saved in CMYK or grayscale mode as a tiff, eps, or CT format. Any other formats provided will require chargeable conversion time and slow production schedules. RGB jpeg images will need to be converted to CMYK tiff format. Do not use LZW compression on photoshop images.

4. IMAGE RESOLUTION should be set at 300 dpi for photographs and 1200 dpi for line art.

5. FPO or for position only images should be clearly marked in the electronic file or hand written on the hardcopy.

6. Provide complete up-to-date hardcopy of your job. Please mark on your proof the reduction percent if any. Also provide separate colorbreak hardcopy. If color hardcopy is provided, indicate if we are to match color on press. There will be extra chargeable time to match as close as possible to customer inkjet prints. Most customer's prints are not calibrated to any industry standard and are out of color range/gamut.

7. If special effects are needed, provide a printed sample if your idea cannot be described proficiently.

8. General layout guidelines :

  • Any item to bleed past final trim needs to be set for 1/8"
  • Do not enlarge or reduce images more than 20% within a layout program
  • Keep any type or critical image 1/4" from final trim.
  • Convert type to paths in Illustrator, Freehand or Corel.
  • Avoid embedding images within programs such as Illustrator and Pagemaker. Images should be placed as a link so we can easily color correct images if needed.
  • All catalog pages need to be set up as an individual page per document or printer spreads.
  • Export Corel files as abobe illustrator files.
  • Create duotones using Photoshop 3.0 or 4.0. Do not colorize tiffs to create duotones within a layout application such as Quark Xpress or Pagemaker.
  • When naming your electronic files, keep the names under 14 characters using only letters and numbers never using special symbols as: =+*&%$#@?!

Before a Project is started think, plan, call us. We can save you time and money with a two minute phone call or a quick E-mail.

Color Quest uses a 100% digital workflow. We DO NOT image your job to film and strip up flats for production.
